Cameroon’s hopes of progressing in the 2023 World HandBall Women’s Championship were dashed following a disappointing 24-15 defeat to Croatia on Saturday December 9th 2023. The match, which took place at the Scandinavium Arena in Sweden, saw Cameroon struggle to keep up with their opponents.

Having advanced to the main round as the third-best team in Group B, Cameroon had shown promise earlier in the tournament. Their victory over Paraguay with a score of 26-23 had given fans hope for a successful campaign. However, their performance against Croatia fell short of expectations.
The match against Croatia proved to be a tough challenge for the Cameroonian team. Despite their efforts, they were unable to match the skill and strength of their opponents with Croatia dominating the game, leaving them struggling to find their rhythm.
With this defeat, the lionesses’ hopes to advance to the next stage of the tournament, are shattered. Their final match in the group stage will be against Senegal on Monday, December 11th. Although the outcome will not impact their chances of progressing, it will be an opportunity for the team to salvage some pride and end the tournament on a positive note.
That notwithstanding, sources say, the Cameroonian handball lionesses will need to regroup and reflect on their performance in the tournament.
Despite their elimination, it is argued that their participation has provided valuable insights and exposure for the team. It is hoped that this will serve as a stepping stone for future success in international competitions.
