AFCON2023: CÔTE D’IVOIRE AND NIGERIA CONSIDERED FAVORITES IN GROUP A

The 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations is set to take place in Côte d’Ivoire from the 13th of January to the 11th of February, 2024.

The highly anticipated tournament will feature 24 teams divided into 6 groups, all vying for the prestigious trophy.

Group A, which includes the host country Côte d’Ivoire, with Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea Bissau, promises exciting matches right from the start.

Ivory Coast, hosting the tournament for the first time since 1984, will be hoping to emerge victorious at home.

This, after winning the African Cup of Nations twice. First in 1992 and in 2015.

Their journey begins with the opening match against Guinea Bissau’s national team, on the 13th of January at 8pm, at the Alassane Ouatarra Stadium.

It’s worth recalling, Guinea Bissau has made it a habit to qualify for the tournament since 2017 but has never advanced beyond the group stage.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles of Nigeria, three-time AFCON champions in 1980, 1994, and 2013, will be shooting for another title to their collection.

It should be noted, they have been runners-up  for four good times,  finishing in third place on eight occasions, of the prestigious tournament.

They will face Equatorial Guinea, who is yet to set her hands trophy, on the 14th of January in the Abidjan at the Alassane Ouatarra Stadium.

Football fans across Africa and beyond are eagerly awaiting the start of the 34th African Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

With a month of intense competition ahead, only one team will emerge victorious on the night of February 11th, 2024.
