In an exciting Group E final clash, South Africa’s national football team, Bafana Bafana, held out for a goalless draw against Tunisia at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo, to sail through to the round of 16 in the AFCON 2023.
The tension was palpable as both teams fought fiercely to secure their place in the next round. During the first half, both South Africa and Tunisia struggled to create clear chances, resulting in a goalless scoreline.
Both sides however, had promising opportunities but failed to find the back of the nets, especially when Tunisia’s E. Skhiri surprisingly missed a header. However, as the game progressed, South Africa’s confidence grew, with the Man of the Match, Themba Zwane orchestrating several attacks from deep.
With a point being enough to secure their place in the round of 16, Bafana Bafana were bent on not letting Tunisia get a single goal, hence, ultimately achieving the goalless draw that concludes the Group E ties of the competition.
While South Africa celebrates their hard-earned spot in the knockout stages, Tunisia’s disappointment is evident as they bow out of the tournament, finishing at the bottom of the group, while Mali tops the group and Namibia advances as the third-best finisher.
