AFCON2023 / WALLET: CAF ANNOUNCES 40% INCREASE

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has made a major announcement regarding the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Côte d’Ivoire 2023. In an effort to support the growth and development of African football, the governing body has increased the Prize Money for the winner by a staggering 40% !

The Winner of the AFCON 2023 will now receive a whopping $7 million (equivalent to 4.2 billion FCFA). This is a significant increase from the previous prize.

The Runners-up will also benefit from this increase, receiving $4 million (equivalent to 2.4 billion FCFA).

The Semi-finalists will now be awarded $2.5 million (equivalent to 1.5 billion FCFA), while the Quarter-finalists will receive $1.3 million (equivalent to 791 million FCFA).

Dr. Patrice Motsepe, President of CAF, expressed his satisfaction with this development, stating, « CAF has made significant progress over the past two years in increasing the Prize Money of the AFCON and all its other major competitions. We have increased the Prize Money of the AFCON Winner to USD 7,000,000, which is a 40% increase from the previous AFCON Prize Money. »

He further added, « I am confident that a portion of the Prize Money will contribute to developing football and also benefit all the football stakeholders, as well as assist our Member Associations with their administrations. »

From all indications, this increase in Prize Money is a testament to CAF’s commitment to improving African football and ensuring that players, teams, and member associations are adequately rewarded for their hard work and dedication.
