Douala, the economic hub of Cameroon, is set to host the 23rd edition of the African Athletic Championship. The decision was made during a meeting of the African Confederation Council of Athletics in Lusaka, Zambia. The championship is scheduled to take place from June 15th to June 25th, 2024.
With over 3500 visitors expected, including athletes from across the continent, the competition promises to be a major sporting event. It will serve as a precursor to the World Olympic Games, which are set to take place in July to August 2024.
This will be the second time that Cameroon has had the honor of hosting the prestigious tournament. The first time was in 1996, when Yaoundé hosted the 10th edition from June 13th to June 16th. The upcoming championship will be held at the Douala, Bepanda Reunification Stadium, after the city’s failed bid to host the 2022 edition.
Sports enthusiasts and athletes alike are eagerly anticipating the 23rd African Athletic Championship, as it promises to showcase the best of African athletics on the continent’s stage.
