In a devastating incident in Bafoussam, chief town of the West region, Cameroon, a collision between a bus and a truck has claimed the lives of 8 persons leaving 11 others in a critical condition.
The tragic accident occurred on the 28th of November 2023 at the notorious “Descente Hysacam” location. According to sources, the bus, belonging to Avenir Voyages, was on its way heading to Foumban when it collided with a heavy duty truck.
According to medical reports, the collision resulted in the immediate death of 8 people, whose lifeless bodies were taken to the morgue at the Regional Hospital Center of Bafoussam, while the 11 persons who sustained serious injuries were taken to the same health facility for medical treatment.
Upon learning about the incident, Awa Fonka Augustine, the governor of the West region, rushed to the scene to assess the situation and provide support to the injured.
Once there, he seized the opportunity to expressed his heart felt condolences to the families of the deceased, adding that the authorities will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
It is worth recalling, road accidents are unfortunately common in Cameroon, and the government has been working tirelessly to improve road safety measures. However, incidents like this serve as a reminder of the urgent need to address the issue and enhance road infrastructure and regulations.
As the investigation begins, drivers and passengers alike, are called upon to exercise caution on the roads and adhere to traffic rules and regulations in order to avoid such incidents.
