The highly anticipated Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists- Douala, CAMASEJ-D, Mini Peace Tournament officially launched on November 11, 2023, at the Camtel Bepanda stadium. The tournament, which aims to promote peace and unity through sports, features four teams notably, CAMASEJ-D and three of its partners.
The opening ceremony was a vibrant affair, with fans and supporters flocking to the stadium to witness the kickoff of this exciting event. The atmosphere was electric as the teams prepared to showcase their skills and compete for the coveted championship title.
The first match featured two institutions, HIPE and PEPCAM who battled it out on the field with great intensity. The players exhibited exceptional teamwork and individual talent, providing a spectacle for the fans. Despite a valiant effort from both sides, the match ended in a 1 – nil victory in favor of PEPCAM.
The second match of the tournament saw CAMASEJ-D, the host team, facing off against ALPHA. Both teams displayed remarkable sportsmanship and determination, making it a thrilling match for the spectators, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
It is worth mentioning, CAMASEJ-D Mini Peace Tournament aims to foster unity and cohesion among the participating teams and the wider community. It serves as a platform for the working personnels to showcase their skills and promote the values of peace and harmony through sports. The tournament also provides an opportunity for networking and building relationships within the journalism community.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the President of CAMASEJ-D, Maureen NDIH emphasized the importance of promoting peace through sports. She stated, “Sports have the power to bring people together, transcend boundaries, and promote understanding. We hope that this tournament will serve as a catalyst for peace and unity within our community.”
The tournament will continue with the semi-finals and the final match, which is expected to be a thrilling culmination of the event. Fans and supporters are eagerly anticipating the upcoming matches, as the teams battle it out for the championship title. Notwithstanding, the CAMASEJ-D Mini Peace Tournament has already made a significant impact, bringing together journalists and media professionals in a spirit of camaraderie and friendly competition.
It serves as a reminder of the power of sports to bridge divides and promote peace, not only within the journalism community but also in society as a whole.
It should be noted, the competition which began on November 11th 2023, will run till December 2nd 2023, in Douala, the nation’s economic hub.
