A residential neighborhood in Douala was thrown into chaos late Wednesday night when an armed gang launched a violent attack.
According to eyewitnesses, the attack began around 10 PM when the heavily armed gang invaded the neighborhood at Bonaberi. They reportedly fired shots into the air to instill fear and gain control of the area. Panic spread quickly among the residents, many of whom fled their homes to seek safety.
Local authorities confirmed that the gang’s motive appeared to be robbery, as they looted several homes and shops. The gang members broke into houses, stealing money, electronics, and other valuables. Several cars were also vandalized during the rampage.
Security forces responded to distress calls and arrived at the scene approximately 30 minutes after the attack began. A firefight ensued between the gang and the police, leading to the gang members fleeing the area. The police managed to apprehend three suspects while the rest of the gang escaped.
Mayor Paul Ekane of Douala expressed his condemnation of the attack and vowed that the culprits would be brought to justice. “We will not tolerate such acts of violence and lawlessness in our city. Our security forces are working tirelessly to ensure that all those responsible are apprehended and face the full force of the law,” he said.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.
