Cameroonian customs officers have made a major drug bust at Douala International Airport, intercepting a shipment of 434 kg of Tramadol, a synthetic drug with an estimated value of 700 million FCFA. The illicit cargo was reportedly hidden on an Ethiopian Airlines flight en route from Sudan.
Customs officers discovered this substantial quantity of Tramadol upon the flight’s arrival in Douala. Official statements revealed that the drugs were meticulously concealed in 14 packages, reportedly containing the tablets, this was done on the 4th of June.
It should be recalled, this comes barely five days after the interception of another package from Brazil, worth billions of dollars, on the 30th of May.
The efforts of the officers have been commended as the interceptions mark a significant victory in the fight against drug trafficking and highlights the serious issue of importing dangerous substances into the country.
Authorities are continuing to bolster security and surveillance measures to prevent the entry of such substances into Cameroon, thereby ensuring public health and national security.
