Renowned Cameroonian tech entrepreneur Rebecca Enonchong, on her social media account expressed her frustration on the deteriorating network conditions in Cameroon. Enonchong, who is widely recognized for her contributions to the tech industry african wide, criticized the country’s telecommunications companies who according to her fail to improve their services despite an increasing number of users.

In her social media post, Enonchong stated, « All telecoms in Cameroon are getting worse with time. The problem is that they are adding users but not adding capacity. The more people get connected, the more they have to share the tiny existing bandwidth. »

Her remarks highlight a growing concern among many Cameroonians who have been experiencing frequent disruptions and slow internet speeds. With the country’s increasing reliance on digital platforms for communication, education, and business, the inadequate network infrastructure has become a significant hindrance to progress.

These companies have seen a surge in demand for their services, particularly in recent years. The rapid growth of mobile phone usage and internet access has led to a substantial increase in the number of subscribers. However, the infrastructure has not kept pace with this demand.

The consequences of this situation are felt by both individuals and businesses. Slow internet speeds and frequent network outages have hampered productivity, hindered online transactions, and affected the quality of online communication. Students relying on e-learning platforms have also been greatly affected, as their access to educational resources is compromised.
