The Douala City mayor has presented to the general public this day, October 23rd 2023, the Douala Clean City program. The initiative is aimed at making sure Douala is neat and attractive. He calls for city dwellers to put hands on deck in order to see to the cleanliness of the town.
Keeping the environment, streets, homes and neighborhoods clean, is the main objective of the Douala Clean City program.
Before a handful of guests notably the Governor of the Littoral region, the members of the press and different authorities, Dr. Roger MBASSA NDINE stressed on the fact that henceforth in the economic capital, sanctions await persons who won’t hesitate to throw waste on the ground. The forces of law and order will equally be commended to track down anyone who does not respect the program.
Speaking at the gathering, Mr. Governor Samuel Dieudonné IVAHA DIBOUA of the Littoral Region, acknowledged the necessity of such a program in a cosmopolitan city like Douala and beckoned on all competent authorities to see that it be implemented in all their jurisdictions. Highlighting that « let everyday be Thursday clean », in other words, practicing cleanliness in the town, will henceforth be a routine.
Consequently, he called on everyone both young and aged population to watch out and detach from any uncivic nature that would cause them to be promoters of filthiness in the city of Douala.
In order to help them do so, the authorities have embarked on the production of trash cans for households of different sizes and the people have been given till October 31st 2023, to take note of the new initiative, after which operations will begin, firstly from the Soudanaise neighborhood to the Mboppi neighborhood.
The « Douala Clean City, It’s possible!!! » program eventually comes at a point when the town has lately been having pungent smells in some of its sectors and most often in strategic areas due to the waste being dropped by the road side by persons, sometimes, despite the disposal of public trash cans.
