On Sunday, June 2, 2024, the Ivorian bishops concluded their 125th plenary assembly with a solemn mass in the diocese of Yopougon, Orbaff. Following the proceedings, a communiqué was published, urging Ivorians, particularly the political class, to work towards fair and peaceful elections in 2025.

The bishops’ message is clear: « to act on all levers that guarantee fair, transparent, credible, inclusive, and peaceful elections. » This communiqué reflects their concern for ensuring that the electoral process takes place in a climate of peace and justice, thereby ensuring the country’s stability.

As the 2025 elections approach, the bishops emphasize the importance of transparency and inclusivity, essential elements for strengthening citizens’ trust in the electoral system. They encourage all political and social actors to actively contribute to creating a calm and fair electoral environment.

This stance by the Ivorian bishops comes at a time when Côte d’Ivoire is preparing for crucial elections and political tensions can quickly escalate. Their call for responsibility and vigilance is a timely reminder of the importance of peace and national cohesion.
