In recent news, South Africa has announced its withdrawal from hosting the 2027 Women’s World Cup. The decision was taken by the country’s Football Federation in order to avoid a rushed presentation.

Lydia Monyepao, the boss of the federation explained the reasoning behind their decision is as a result of the fact that they believe it is better to present a better-prepared bid for 2031 rather than rushing into presenting that of 2027.
A decision which reflects the federation’s commitment to ensuring a well-prepared bid that stands a higher chance of success for the tournament.
With South Africa’s withdrawal, the remaining candidates are a joint bid from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, one from Brazil and another joint bid by Mexico and the United States.
The final decision on the host country or countries will be made during the congress scheduled to take place on the 17th of May 2024. But before then, the world football governing body, FIFA had set December 8th as the deadline for submitting detailed plans for hosting the competition.
Note, Australia & New Zealand served as host to the last edition of the Women’s World Cup with Spain emerging victorious.
In the meantime, the US, Mexico and Canada will co-host the men’s World Cup in 2026.
