In a devastating incident that occurred early this morning, of October 31st 2023, three individuals lost their lives in an accident at Nyalla Chateau neighborhood, located in the Douala 3 subdivision. The victims included a commercial bike rider and two female students.

According to eyewitness accounts, a forklift experienced a brake failure while descending from the Chateau hill. As a result, the forklift crashed into a shop and warehouse that were filled with marble, granite, and tiles. The impact of the collision was so severe that it caused extensive damage to the building and its contents.

Prior to crashing into the marble shop, the forklift struck two young students, identified as 15-year-old Mbiadeu Darlin and 9-year-old Monkam Gadielle. Tragically, both students succumbed to their injuries. Additionally, an unidentified commercial bike rider was also hit by the out-of-control forklift.

The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the mortuary of the Gyaenaco Obstetric Hospital, where they await further procedures. Meanwhile, two of the three injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment at the same hospital.

In light of the incident, the forklift driver has been taken into custody by the authorities at the 16th police district. Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and to hold responsible parties accountable for the loss of lives and property.
